Seasonal Flower Guide: What’s Blooming When?

Seasonal Flower Guide: What’s Blooming When?

At Fresh Market Farms we have the frequently asked question “What flower is in season right now”. Choosing blooms that are naturally in season ensures the best quality, longest vase life, and the most vibrant colours. Whether you’re planning a wedding, decorating your home, or simply buying weekly flowers from our farm stand, knowing what is in bloom can help you make the best choices. Here is our guide to what is blooming in each season in Southern Ontario and how to use these flowers in your decor.

Spring Blooms (March – May)

Spring is the season of renewal, and flowers begin to burst into colour after the winter chill. This is the best time for soft, delicate flowers and pastel shades.

Flowers in Season:
• Tulips – Classic and elegant, perfect for bouquets and table arrangements.
• Daffodils – Bright yellow and cheerful, great for early spring decor.
• Ranunculus – Full and romantic, a great choice for weddings.
• Hyacinths – Fragrant and colorful, ideal for indoor arrangements.
• Peonies (late May – early July) – A favorite for their lush, full blooms.
• Lilacs – Wonderfully fragrant and nostalgic.

Best Uses:
Spring flowers are perfect for Easter celebrations, bridal showers, and soft, romantic wedding arrangements. A simple bouquet of tulips in a vase can brighten any home, while daffodils are a symbol of new beginnings, making them great for gifts. Peonies and ranunculus are bridal favourites.

Summer Blooms (June – August)

Summer flowers are bold, vibrant, and full of life. This season is all about bright, eye-catching
arrangements and sun-loving blooms. Our fields are buzzing with busy bees this time of year in
our flower fields and we have many kinds of birds and butterflies that call our farm home.

• Sunflowers – Cheerful and long-lasting, perfect for summer events.
• Zinnias – Colorful and hardy, ideal for cut flower arrangements.
